God’s Pre-creation Knowledge of Creation
Ghulamreza Fayyazi
Arranged by: Husain Muzaffari
This paper deals with four famous theories of God’s pre-creation knowledge of creation explaining their points of weakness and strength. These theories include:
a) Peripatetics believe that God’s pre-creation knowledge of creation is acquired, detailed and is out of the essence of God.
b) Suhrawardi is of the view that God’s pre-creation knowledge is general and compendious.
c) Mulla Sadra’s earlier (initial) view is that God’s intuitive knowledge of Himself includes his pre-creation knowledge of creation.
d) Mulla Sadra’s latest view is that God’s pre-creation knowledge of creation is acquired and detailed while being at the same time identical with the Divine Essence.
Explaining the weaknesses of the first three theories, the author supports the fourth theory deeming it free from the objections raised against the first three theories and choosing it as his own theory.
Keywords: General knowledge, Detailed knowledge, God’s pre-creation knowledge, God’s acquired knowledge.
